Popular File Formats & The Programs to Open Them

While using Linux you may come across many file formats which you might not have heard of while using Windows. There are some other formats which you have come across, but you don't know which app to use to open it. Some such file-formats & their apps are given below:

*.pdfxpdf
*.htmlnetscape
*.dvixdvi
*.psgv

Graphic Editing

This thing called Linux is killing me with its infinite options...
So far I was using Gimp under KDE. My Pentium 166 showed its age. Today I used Gimp under AfterStep. This seems to be the best window-manager for graphic editing. Just moving your cursor over a Window makes that window active. And you can waft through the different virtual desktops seamlessly - a boon while you are working with large graphic files. ...and of course it doesn't take much memory too.
For graphic editing I use the ash shell. This seems to be the smallest shell available for Linux. This frees my memory further.
Thus I have a PII running a Photoshop, virtually of course...

Lisa:Subhash, how you changed the default bash shell to ash shell?
Subhash:Well Lis, I took the shortcut way to 'use' the ash shell & not change it. I just created a new user 'subhash' using the KDE user manager. Using this app you can select the default shell of each user from a drop-down list. I selected 'ash' for 'subhash'. Now whenever I login as subhash, I have the ash shell running. Another tool to change the shell is userinfo.

Lisa:How did you start AfterStep?
Subhash:I bet you know that! Don't you? Any way, I will proceed. Before loging in as a user, from the 'session' menu choose 'fail safe'. Login. Type the following:
#afterstep &
to fire AfterStep.
